Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne says the Africa Cup of Nations draw will provide the perfect opportunity for Kenya to display its muscle in Africa’s most premier football competition.
Stars were drawn against Africa’s top seed Senegal, The Desert Warriors of Algeria and neigbours Tanzania in group C of the tournament.
With giants Algeria and Senegal also offering some evocative, historic rivalry, Migne’s men have been handed a tough task to get out of the group as they look to go one better than the 2004 campaign in which they finished third behind Mali and Senegal.
.But the Frenchman insisted his side fear no one… and it is Kenya who will be fearsome.
“If you think about the group, you are already out. If you think it is too difficult, you are already out. We don’t think either,” Migne said defiantly.
“I expected a difficult group, we have a difficult group and that’s what the Nations Cup is all about. I am fine with that. Now let’s go. It’s a big challenge, but for all the others it is a big challenge to face us.
“I am glad that we are going to play Africa number one, this will be a good chance for our players to play well and be efficient,”
“We have nothing to lose, we just need to go and create something fantastic our there,” he continued.
“Of course we are aware of the kind of opponents we are going to face, Algeria are also a very good side, respect to Tanzania, they are here on merit, you saw them beat Uganda 3-0 in their last round of qualifiers,’ he added.
The draw was held in Cairo on Friday night with Kenya landing Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania in group C.
Kenya opens her campaign with a fixture against Algeria on 23rd of June before taking on Tanzania four days later. Harambee Stars will then face Senegal on 1st of July at 10pm.
