Midfielder Justin Monda and goalkeeper Gabriel Andika have reportedly agreed deals to sign for AFC Leopards. The duo met the AFC Leopards Interim Management Board (IMC) on Sunday and agreed to move to the capital from Sony Sugar FC and Western Stima respectively.
With the start of the 2016 season just over a fortnight away, Ingwe will have to do without 96% of the team that represented them in the 2015 season. Most of the players have walked out citing financial strains and the inclusion of the duo will add some experience to the young squad.
Player of the Month
Monda had a fantastic second leg with Salim Babu’s Sony while Andika had another great season at Stima and even won the SJAK Sport Pesa Player of the Month award for May, 2015. However, Stima’s chairman Laban Jobita has reportedly sworn that Andika won’t be leaving for Leopards who he accused of making an ‘illegal approach’ to the player.
The two have already relocated to Nairobi and will be joining the rest of the squad at their Railways Training Institute Grounds on Tuesday 26, January 2016.
Ingwe have already captured the services of former Kenyan internationals Kepha Aswani, and Dennis Nzomo, Ugandan winger Jimmy Bageya and defender Yusuf Juma. Youngsters Alfred ‘Kemboi’ Wekesa and his compatriot from Kakamega High School, Edwin Mukolwe have also been drafted in.
They have however lost most of their experienced players, notably Edwin Wafula and Bernard Mang’oli who left for Bandari while captain Jackson Saleh has sealed a move to bitter rivals Gor Mahia with forward Mike Khamati also looking for suitors.
