Ayimba Makes Two Changes for Paris, London 7s

Strathmore Leos duo Billy Odhiambo and Alex Olaba have been called up for the last two legs of the 2015-16 World Rugby Sevens set for Paris and London respectively.

The two will replace Alvin Otieno and Samuel Motari in what are the only changes from the triumphant squad that won the Singapore Sevens in April.

Odhiambo last featured for the team in the Vancouver Sevens leg which took place in March 12-13, 2016 while Pan Africa Strathmore Leos’ Olaba last played in the 2014 Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Olympics in mind

Kenya head coach Ayimba while naming the squad said; “We are using these two tournaments to further sharpen our skills with the Rio Olympics in mind.”

On the inclusion of Odhiambo and Olaba, Ayimba said: “Billy has recovered and is well rested after missing out Hong Kong and Singapore while we have given Olaba a look in, in keeping with our policy of squad rotation and exposing our younger players. He is however not new to the set up, having played three tournaments during the 2014/15 under Paul Treu.”

The side departs the country on Sunday 8 May for the Paris 7s set for 14–15 May where they will face New Zealand, Portugal and Russia in Pool A. The season-ending London 7s will be played on 20–22 May.
