Ayimba’s Kenya Sevens Job up for Grabs

The Kenya Sevens Head Coach as well as Team Manager positions have been left vacant after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) advertised for fresh applications.

Benjamin Ayimba and Newton Ong’alo the coach and team manager respectively are serving the last days of their contracts and it seems KRU is not keen to initiate talks for contract renewals.

Part of the statement read: “The Board of the Union is desirous of filling the position of the Head Coach, Kenya Sevens National Team accountable to the Board through the Chief Executive Officer and the Director of Rugby for the effective overall management of the Kenya Sevens Team.”

The move comes at the back of a poor performance by the Kenya 7s team during August’s Rio Olympic Games. Kenya finished second from bottom, only beating minnows Brazil in the 11-12th playoff.

Ayimba and Ong’alo were both appointed last year on a one-year contract. The highlight of their tenure was the Kenya 7s triumph at the Singapore 7s.
