David Ojuang’ canceled out David King’atua’s first half opener to salvage Chemelil FC a point against visiting Bandari FC whose winless run in the Kenyan Premier League hit the seven-point mark.
The Dockers had not won a match since beating Sofapaka 1-0 on March 13 and their poor form continued as they settled for a third straight stalemate with Chemelil.
A fairly balanced affair that offered few clear cut chances was opened up for excitement in the 35th minute when Kinga’tua pounced on a brilliant pass from Edwin Lavatsa and slotted home his third league goal of the season past Samuel Odhiambo.
Dan Sserunkuma who earned a rare start should have made it 2-0 four minutes later but he failed to beat Odhiambo after doing the donkey work of evading his markers.
Chemelil could have gone to the break on level terms but Bandari keeper Wilson Obungu made a stunning save to deny Victor his maiden goal for the millers who trailed 0-1 at the interval.
The equalizer did come 10 minutes after the restart Ojuang heading home a freekick from Majid. Bandari offered little in the second half and were saved by their hosts’ profilgacy in front of goal especially from Erastus Mwaniki who made a mess of huge chance in the 65th minute as he failed to beat Obungu on a one-on-one situation.
Twahir Muhiddin’s side seemed content to hold back and get a point rather than commit men forward and risk losing all the three. With their hosts running out of ideas in the final third, a point looked fair enough for both sides who remain 10th and 11th on the log.
In other matches, Nairobi City Stars ended their four-game losing run with a barren stalemate against Ushuru while Samuel Otieno scored at the stroke of half time as Sony Sugar beat bottom side Sofapaka 1-0. – Steifmaster
