Bandari FC’s title credentials will be put to test today afternoon when they start their 2016 Kenyan Premier League campaign against Nairobi City Stars at the Nyayo Stadium from 4pm.
The Dockers go into the fixture at the back of a morale-sapping 2-0 defeat to St. Eloi Lupopo of Congo in the first leg of their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary tie last weekend.
Head Coach Twahir Muhiddin has tested a lot of success lately in the local soil, winning back-to-back titles. The Dockers have named a strong squad against City Stars with Bernard Mang’oli earning his first start in midfield alongside his former AFC Leopards team Musa Mudde.
The backline is unchanged with Edwin Wafula on the right, Duncan Otewa on the left while Shariff Mohamed and former Sofapaka man Felly Mulumba at the heart of the defence.
Ugandan duo George Abege and Dan Sserunkuma will partner upfront alongside Edwin Lavatsa in what is likely to be a three-pronged attack against Bobby Ogolla’s side.
Bandari completed a league double against City Stars last season, winning 1-0 in Nairobi and 2-1 in Mombasa. The two teams are deadlocked in their head-to-head record with three wins apiece and four draws in their previous 11 matches.
Bandari Starting XI: Wilson Oburu (GK), Edwin Wafula, Mohamed Shariff, Felly Mulumba, Duncan Otewa, Musa Mudde, Bernard Mangoli, Anthony Kimani, George Abege, Dan Sserunkuma, Edwin Lavatsa,
Subs: Joseph Okoth, Humphrey Okoti, Hamis Tole, David Gateri, Shabaan Kenga, Meshack Karani, David Kingatua
