The Kenyan Premier League makes a return after a long international break with a midweek clash between Sony Sugar and Ulinzi Stars at the former’s Awendo Grounds this Wednesday, September 7.
The 3pm kickoff pits two sides who both need victory for different reasons. Ulinzi, despite being 11 points behind leaders Tusker FC, still feel they have a chance of winning the title thanks to their two games in hand which if they win, will reduce the gap to 5 points.
Sony Sugar on the other end would want to finish within the Top 8 and victory here will take them to within three points of doing so.
Ulinzi are unbeaten in their last 4 league assignments but will go into the match without head coach Robert Matano who is battling a kidney problem. The absence of ‘The Lion’ could work both in favor and disfavor for the Soldiers. In one hand, the players will be pushing to win it for the boss but on the other hand, his absence from the touchline could be highly missed.
Sony will be hoping to make a perfect response to the 1-0 defeat they suffered away to Chemelil last time out. They have not lost at home in their last 8 assignments and have only ever suffered one defeat to Ulinzi in the league in their previous 7 clashes. The corresponding fixture ended 1-1 last season while the two sides shared a barren stalemate in the first leg this season.
This can only mean that this match will not produce more than two goals was doing an Under 2.5 seems more logical.
A win for the home side is more likely but putting a draw at full time is even better.
