Sportpesa Premier League champions Gor Mahia survived a scare on Wednesday to qualify to the next round of the CAF Champions League after ousting Nyasa Big Bullets 4-3 on post match penalties.
Veteran Keeper Bonface Oluoch was the hero of the day, saving a penalty in play and one during the post match.
Both teams did not have a good first half and the visitors did well to keep away the Bullets attacks directed their way in the first half. Chiukepo Msowoya caught out Oluoch in the 55th minute of the game to score the goal that ensured that the tie went to penalties.
The hosts will however blame Msowoya for not putting away the spot kick awarded to them in the 87th minute, one which was easily collected by the former Kenya number one keeper.
With new coach Hassan Oktay on the touchline, the Kenyan Champions knew the hard work ahead of them especially after laboring to beat their opponents 1-0 in Nairobi a week ago. They did not get off the blocks on time but got livelier in the second stanza.
Oktay’s K’Ogalo will now shift attention to Saturday’s SPL opener away to Bandari FC.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Kariobangi Sharks are through to the next round of the competition after thumping Arta Solar 3-0 away. The Shield champions had thrashed Arta 6-1 in Nairobi.
