CHAN: Congo Advance as Cameroon Held

The  Democratic Republic of Congo joined hosts Rwanda in the last eight of African Nations Championship (CHAN) after they beat Angola 4-2 on Thursday.

The results ensured DR Congo went top of Group B on a maximum six points while Angola are eliminated after two straight defeats.

DR Congo raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time against neighbours Angola. Nelson Munganga, Elia Meschak and Jonathan Bolingi all found the target for the inaugural (2009) CHAN winners.

Gelson and Yano hit back for Angola but in between those goals, Merveille Bope struck DR Congo’s fourth.

Lions Held

Cameroon drew 0-0 with Ethiopia in the late kick off and a similar result against DR Congo on Monday will be enough for them to go through. The West Africans had the better of the first half, which was held-up for 10 minutes because of floodlight failure, while Ethiopia improved after the break.

Only a big win for Ethiopia against Angola coupled with a Cameroon loss gives them any chance of progressing.
