Kenyan Premier League reigning champions Gor Mahia will make two short trips to neighboring Tanzania and Rwanda and a long one to Algeria in North Africa when they get their CAF Confederations Cup group stage campaign underway.
This is after they were drawn in Group D alongside fellow East African heavyweights Yanga of Tanzania and Rayon Sport from Rwanda as well as Algeria’s USM Alger in an event that took place at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
In what has been a historic campaign for East Africa, three of the four sides that made it into the lucrative Group Stages will tussle in the same pool with the fourth member, Al Hilal from Sudan, drawn in Pool B.
Gor Mahia, who eliminated last year’s losing finalists Supersport United, will begin their campaign away to Rayon Sport on May 6, the Rwandese side having gone past Mozambique’s Costa do Sol 3-2 in their playoff match.
They will then welcome USM Alger at home 10 days later before finishing their first leg assignments on July 18 with a home clash against Yanga, 2-1 victors over Ethiopia’s Welayta Dicha in the playoffs.
Group winners and runners up will advance of the quarters.
