Kenya’s Bandari FC put their Caf Confederation Cup campaign on the edge after a lifeless performance saw them settle for a barren draw against Sudanese club El Ahly Shandy at the Kasarani Stadium.
The two sides clashed for the first leg of their preliminary encounter with Bandari looking to establish a first leg advantage.
Head coach Bernard Mwalala had expressed confidence of getting at least a 3-0 home result but his side finished the match without a shot on target.
El Ahly were well-drilled and didn’t allow Bandar’s often dangerous three-man attack of William Wadri, Yema Mwama and Hassan Abdallah to get a sniff.
Mwalala went for broke as he sacrificed the defensive midfield duo of Darius Msagha and Collins Agade for Benjamin Mosha and Shaban Kenga but there was still no way through.
Even the introduction of Wyclife Ochomo failed to bully Bandari through as the visitors’ rearguard remained firm.
The return leg will be in a fortnight in Sudan where any scoring draw will see the Kenyan side prevail.
