Tanzania’s top meal in their football menu, the Dar es Salaam Derby, ended in ecstasy for Yanga but tears for archrivals Simba SC who were beaten 2-0 in an imposing battle at the National Stadium Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Saturday (Sept. 26).
With a 100% winning start at stake for both sides, it was Yanga who kept their record while also giving their fans the bragging rights, thanks to a goal each from Amisi Tambe and Maalim Busungu.
Yanga, the Vodacom Premier League( VPL) defending Champions, scored either side of the half, Tambwe slotting home past Peter Manyika in Simba’s goal at the stroke of half-time. Busungu confirmed the result with his own strike 10 minutes to the final whistle as Yanga were left celebrating despite being reduced to 10-men after Mbuyu Twitte was sent off late on for a second bookable offence.
Yanga top the league with a maximum 12 points, three above their conquered rivals.
Mtibwa Sugar also kept their 100% winning record with a 1-0 defeat of Maji Maji. Bottom side JKT Ruvu lost their fourth match on the trot, falling 1-0 to Stand United.
Coastal Union played to a barren draw with Mwadui FC while Kagera Sugar were 1-0 winners over Toto Africans.
