Archivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards failed to give their fans a winning end to the 2018 Kenyan Premier League season as they both suffered defeats in their respective season finale matches.
Gor Mahia paid a visit to Tusker FC at the Thika Stadium and were beaten 1-0 as Leopards lost 2-0 to Nzoia United at the Machakos Stadium.
Gor, the champions, were beaten by a solitary first half goal from John Kamau who delicately headed home a cross from Justin Omary past Frederick Odhiambo with just 11 minutes on the clock.
Gor struggled to create anything meaningful for the tightly-marked Jacques Tuyisenge who was looking for one more goal to make the golden boot his own. In fact, it was the much-improved Brewers who almost scored again but Juma missed a sitter after an inviting cross from Kamau.
George Odhiambo’s shot from distance five minutes to the break was Kogalo’s only serious effort on target in an afternoon where Patrick Matasi was extremely underemployed in goal.
In Machakos, Leopards poor run-in came to a crescendo against a Nzoia outfit who needed victory to guarantee them top tier football next season.
The twin goals came in the opening half, Kelvin Juma netting the opener after 32 minutes and Hansel Ochieng getting the second two minutes to the half time whistle.
Nicholas Muyoti’s side finished 13th with 41 points, 4 above safety while Leopards, who lost their final four games, managed a seventh place finish with 51 points, 24 behind nemesis and champions Gor Mahia.
