With Paul Were’s botched move to Gor Mahia, Enock Agwanda became the club’s only bit of business during the mid-season transfer window.
The former Sofapaka forward, albeit unable to break into Kogalo’s first team, has nevertheless gotten himself a reward that most players take years to; becoming a crowd favorite.
Gor Mahia’s Green Army are not an exception to that rule. They are difficult to win over, and can turn against you in an instant.
Agwanda makes his mark
More worryingly, they have this uncanny ability to influence a manager’s decision on who to play, who to substitute, and when. Agwanda was thrown into the thick of things earlier than perhaps planned after the injury of Collins ‘Gatuso’ Okoth. A forward by nature, but a defender by stature, his introduction at the half hour mark didn’t raise eyebrows.
It proved a masterpiece of a decision as he launched one of his customary throw-ins which found Meddie Kagere who headed in the equalizer. Every time he had the ball on his hands, he attracted deafening roar from the Green Army and he responded by launching the ball into the Mathare United box, so easily, like he was tossing an egg to hungry dogs.
The search for a nickname
With the match ending 1-1, Kogalo kept their unbeaten record intact, and Agwanda received all the plaudits. Deservedly so.
Thereafter, Kogalo fans, seized by their new-found hero, took to social media with one plot in mind; find a befitting nickname, one that will accentuate his skill with the ball at hand, and feet.
Here are some of the ones the club’s fans suggested with Jowi (Buffalo) edging the rest. Make your pick!
Grenade Yego YeGo-r Goliath
Orujre (Slingshot) Agwanda Delap AK-47 Bulldozer
Caterpillar Missile Stoke City Bullet
Jowi (Buffalo) Excavator Nyatieng (stone)
