Kenyan Premier League leaders Tusker FC will momentarily shift their attention from the fierce title race to host Posta Rangers in the last quarterfinal of the GOtv Shield Cup today (Wed. 28) at the Thika Stadium.

The winner of the 3pm kickoff will join fellow KPL side Ulinzi Stars and National Super League duo Kariobangi Sharks and KCB in the semis and while the topflight clubs will be favorites to triumph, Cup competitions always favor the underdogs.

On paper, very little separates the two sides despite Tusker leading the log and Posta only sixth. The two sides already met in the league this season with both winning their home matches 1-0.

In for a double

The Brewers last won this competition in 1993 and will be hoping to not only end that long drought but also give themselves a chance for a season double should they win the league as well. They will approach this match with a lot of optimism as, given the twists and turns of the league campaign, this could be their sure shot at a silverware.

They face a Posta side who have had a successful cup run in the past seasons, culminating in a 2014 final appearance which they lost to Sofapaka. Both teams were ousted of the competition by NSL leaders Nzoia United last season, Sofapaka in the second round and Tusker in the third.

Tusker go into the match at the back of a 2-1 win over Muhoroni Youth in the league while Posta drew 0-0 with Mathare. Given the stage of the competition, both teams will field the strongest side available.

A HT/FT draw seems good value for money with both sides scoring and sending the match to penalties which Posta should win. Expect goals to be thin though with an Under 2.5 1000% likely.

Form

Tusker - L W D W D W

Posta -  W D W D D

Head-to-Head

Tusker have won 4 to Posta's 2 in their previous 8 league meetings with the remaining 2 matches drawn.

Last Meeting (July 2016): Tusker 1-0 Posta Rangers

Correct Score Prediction: 1-1 at FT

The Kenyan Premier League resumes after a week-long break where GOtv Shield matches were played.

League leaders Tusker FC will open the round 25 proceedings when they battle Muhoroni Youth at the Afraha Stadium today, Friday (23) at 2pm, a venue that neither teams can call home but which is fairly convenient for both sides.

The Brewers will be gunning for nothing short of victory if they are to keep their advantage at the top with second-placed Gor Mahia who cut the deficit to just two points with their 1-0 defeat of Ulinzi Stars last week Wednesday.

We can do it

Victory for Tusker will see them open the gap to five points and put pressure on Gor Mahia once again with the defending champions playing Sofapaka on Sunday. Captain James Situma this week insisted that his team has the 'focus and character' to fend off the challenge of Gor Mahia and go all their way so it will be interesting to see if they can walk the talk against an unpredictable Muho.

Muhoroni have been hogging the headlines for wrong reasons lately due to the off-field matters involving some of the players and club Chairman Moses Adagala. The controversy must have had a hand in their ratchet form lately where they have won only one of their last 6 matches.

They may be off the pace as far as challenging for the title is concerned but Muho will be gunning to finish within the Top 8 for the second season running. However, getting one over Tusker has always been a herculean task with their 3-2 win the corresponding fixture last season only their second success over the Brewers in 9 meetings.

A Tusker win seems good value for money here but the safest option is for both teams to score and a draw at half time.

Form

Tusker - L W D W D

Muhoroni - D L W L D

Head-to-Head

Tusker have won 5 to Muhoroni Youth's 2 in the last 9 meetings with the remaining 2 ending in draws

Last Meeting: Muhoroni Youth 1-2 Tusker FC

Correct Score Prediction: A scoring at full time with both goals coming in the second half.
