Gor Mahia midfielder Ali Abondo and AFC Leopards forward Jacob Keli were among those recalled into the Kenya squad who will take on Ethiopia in an African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier match this weekend.
The duo were omitted from Harambee Stars squad who held hosts Congo Brazzaville 1-1 in a 2016 AFCON qualifier clash this past weekend. The exclusion of Abondo was especially frowned upon given his form that has seen him score a league-high 9 goals. The attacking midfielder has now been given a huge chance to play his way into coach Bobby Williamson's future plans.
Kenya will battle the Walyas in Addis Ababa on Sunday June 21 and will leave the country on Friday. The return leg fixture will be between 4-5 July with the winner meeting Djibouti or Burundi.
This year’s edition will be hosted in Rwanda. Kenya, who have never qualified for the competition reserved only for national team players playing in their country's own domestic league, will host the 2018 edition.
