AFC Leopards will miss four key players when they take on Nairobi Stima in the GOtv Shield round of 32 tie to be played at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Ian Otieno did not travel with the team while Whyvonne Isuza, Salim Abdala ‘Shittu’ and Marcus Abwao are out with injuries. However, Alexis Kitenge will make his Ingwe debut according to Stand-in coach Thomas Juma.
The team travelled to Mumias on Friday and will be hoping to go past the National Super League (NSL) side and qualify for the Pre-quarters.
According to Juma, Shittu and Isuzza got a knock in their 2-0 league loss to Kariobangi Sharks last weekend.
The gaffer is however optimistic that the team will overturn Saturday’s disappointment and sweep past their second division opponents.
“We missed a few players in training this week,” he told Fourfourtwomedia on Friday afternoon. “No chance for Isuzza, Ian, Shittu and Marcus.”
“It’s very positive,” Juma said when asked about the mood in the camp.
“We have done a lot of things this week and I am sure they will help us go past our opponents,”
He went on to confirm the availability of Kitenge, the Burundi international who completed his six months move to the den last weekend.
“He is very fit and ready to fight, his experience will also help the young lads in the team in the long run,” he said.
