Charles Okwemba returned to haunt his former employers as Sofapaka beat AFC Leopards 1-0 to move to third in the Kenyan Premier League table. The hosts began the match on a high with Robinson Kamura stinging Matthews Kigonya with a freekick in the 9th minute. There was not much of action in the first half with both sides trying to outsmart each other.
Kamura would then get a second chance to put Ingwe ahead but his curling free kick flew wide off the crossbar. Okwemba was then forced to clear the ball off the line to keep out Allan Kateregga.
Sofapaka took advantage of Ingwe’s poor start to the second half and Moses Odhiambo combined well with Paul Odhiambo who later found an unmarked Okwemba who shot past Ian Otieno for the goal.
Maurice Odipo almost gifted Ingwe a goal minutes later but he was was lucky that the ball did not head into his own net.
Sofapaka head coach Sam Ssimbwa made only one notable change in the team with Humprey Okoti coming back into the team after missing the last three matches through a hamstring injury in the run up to the Tusker game. Ingwe on the other side were limited of options starting with the same lineup that had beaten Thika 2-1 last weekend.
