Two goals from regular target man Moses Cheplaiti and a solitary striker by his partner Brian Saina was all Kenya Police needed to dislodge Butali Sugar Warriors at the top of the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League.

The lethal duo combined to deliver a 3-0 defeat of Kenyatta University as the law enforces took charge of the league for the first time this season. They are currently on 33 points, two better than Butali.

Cheplaiti gave Kenneth Kaunda men’s the lead in the 21st minute before completing his brace six minutes into the second half. Saina scored the last goal of the match in the 61st minute to round up a fine result for Police.

In another match, former Police player Leon Magomere, scored eight minutes to the buzzer to secure Green Sharks a point against Wazalendo in a 3-3 draw.

Chris Wokila gave Sharks the lead in the 12th minute but a goal by Elly Mwanzi in the 24th minute and a Davis Mulongo strike five minutes later drew some scare in the Shark’s territory as Wazalendo took a 2-1 lead at the break.

Magomere was called to action just 12 minutes after resumption drawing Sharks level again but his celebration was cut short when Wycliffe Mbenda restored Wazalendo’s lead in the 55th minute.

Magomere completed his brace in the 61st minute to salvage a point for his side which has won six of their 12 games.

The draw saw Wazalendo join the highly contested third spot which also United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) and Strathmore who played to a barren draw with Western Jaguars in Kakamega. All the three teams have 21 points but Wazalendo have the inferior goal difference.

Kabarak University registered their first win of the season, upsetting second-placed Park Road Tigers in a Pool ‘A’ national men’s league match.

The win pushed Kabarak from 10th to 6th with seven points while Tigers (14) remain second behind leaders Chase Sailors who have 19 points.

JKUAT bounced back from a 0-3 loss to Mombasa Sports Club on Saturday to beat Mt. Kenya University 3-1 on Sunday

Mvita XI dropped six points after they failed to honour their match against Wazalend on Saturday and Nairobi Simba Sunday.

Kenya Police will go top of the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) premier league for the first time this season if they beat Kenyatta University (KU) on Sunday.

Police who are yet to lose a match this year are second on the log with 30 points, just one adrift of leaders Butali Sugar Warriors who have played a game more.

A win for the Ruaraka Cops will take them top of the table, two points ahead of Butali whose only loss this year came from the men in Blue. An unlikely seventh win for the KU Vultures, currently 6th on the log with 19 points, will push them three places up to third with 22 points.

Fourth-placed Green Sharks will play Wazalendo, Sunday, as they aim to dislodge United States International University-Africa (USUI-A) from the third spot. Should Sharks claim a huge win over Wazalendo, they will jump up a place above USIU-A who have played three games more.

Western Jaguars whose much-anticipated clash against Nairobi Simba was called off last week will host Strathmore University, 5th, while 2012 champions Simba host Mvita VI at City Park.

Struggling Mvita have only managed two wins out of eight matches, leaving them 14th, just two places above relegation-bound Parklands and Mombasa Sports Club who have three and two points respectively.

Parkroad Tigers may go joint top with Chaise Sailor in the national men’s pool A if they squeeze a win from visiting Kabarak, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Agriculture will play Mount Kenya University in another match.

Tigers are second on 14 points and a win will increase their chances of toppling league leaders Sailors, who are 5 points to the good though they have played two more matches.
