Kagere Scores another Winner as Kogalo Stretch Lead

Meddie Kagere was Gor Mahia’s match-winner for a second game running as he once again netted the winning goal as the record Kenyan Premier League champions extended their lead at the top of the log following a 2-1 victory over Sony Sugar at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu on Saturday afternoon.

The Rwandese international was the man to turn to the previous matchday as Kogalo edged Kakamega Homeboyz and he repeated the exploit against Sony.

Ernest Wendo, popular for crunching tackles in midfield rather than goalscoring exploits, grabbed the game’s and Kogalo’s opener midway into the opening half with an unstoppable effort from outside the area.

However, the hosts ensured parity before the interval as former Bandari FC striker George Abege dribbled past a couple of half-hearted challenges from the Gor Mahia defence before rounding keeper Boniface Oluoch and planting the ball at the back of an empty net.

It took José Marcelo’s men just three minutes into the second half to pull ahead once again. Kagere, who netted from the substitutes bench last time out, made his presence from the off well felt when he netted Gor Mahia’s second and the eventual match winner after being fed by Kenneth Muguna.

The unfolding events saw Sony boss Salim Babu turn to his bench for reinforcements and Ze Maria responded with the likes of John Ndirangu, George Odhiambo and later on Philemon Otieno enjoying some second half minutes.

There won’t be any more goals to celebrate for either sides though as Kogalo confirmed three more points in their board to move to 12 points out of a possible 15.

Tusker, Ulinzi Draw

In another match, Ulinzi Stars drew with reigning champions Tusker FC at the Afraha Stadium, Nakuru. It was a game of substitutes as Stephen Waruru came off the bench to hand Ulinzi a second half lead, only for his and the Soldiers’ celebrations to be cut short by Abdul Hassan who earned Tusker a point with a late equalizer.

It was the second match running the two sides have drawn, the Soldiers having held AFC Leopards to a barren stalemate while Tusker also battled to a 2-2 draw away to Sofapaka.
