KCB Hammer Ushuru to Aid their Battle for Survival

Paul Mungai Kiongera assisted Ellie Asieche’s opener before scoring the second to lead relegation-threatened KCB to a 3-0 hammering of Ushuru FC in their Kenyan Premier League battle at the City Stadium, Sunday evening.

15 seconds

The on-loan Simba SC forward teed up Asieche’s opener which came inside the opening 15 seconds of the delayed kick-off, before he slotted home a penalty after he was felled in the box by Daniel Otieno to give the Bankers a 2-0 lead at the break.

John Odhiambo all but assured Rishadi Shedu side of the three points with the third goal six minutes after the hour mark.

The Bankers looked determined to get the goals in the match with Shedu pulling out all his ammunition as Kiongera, Asieche and Chrispinus Onyango were all given a starting role.

Ushuru’s Ken Kenyatta went compact with a 4-3-3 formation as he looked to dominate in the middle of the pack with his attackers Charles Okwemba, Allan Katerega and Roosevelt Blatty all benched while Joseph Shikokoti started in midfield.

The opener

It was however Shedu’s gambles that paid off as his side took the lead inside 15 seconds, Kiongera setting up Asieche who blasted a right-footed effort past Samuel Odhiambo in the visitors’ goal.

Kiongera made it 2-0 for the Bankers from the penalty spot after he was hauled down in the box, before Odhiambo rounded up KCB’s second win in their four meetings with Ushuru in the 66th minute.

Warambo off

The Bankers however were left with a bitter taste after Bethwel Warambo was sent off in the 90th minute for a professional foul but the match had been long won by then.

The win sees KCB remain 14th on the log on 25 points, four ahead of Nairobi City Stars behind them and just two behind Chemelil in 13th. City Stars were beaten 2-1 by Bandari on Saturday while Chemelil lost 3-2 to Ulinzi Stars also on Saturday.

In another match, Sony Sugar ended Thika United’s recent good run with a 2-0 win at Thika Stadium.
