Kenya in a tough pool ahead of the Special Olympics Unified Cup in Chicago.

Special Olympics (SO) Kenya has been pooled in a tough group ahead of the first ever Special Olympics Unified Football cup scheduled for Chicago , USA later this month. The Kenyan team is the only female team representing Africa in the tournament to be held as the world celebrate the Special Olympics 50th Anniversary.

The Kilifi based team will kick off the games against SO Brazil on 17th before meeting SO USA Illinois  and winding up the group A matches against  SO Slovakia .
With a task of bringing a medal back in Africa, coach  Nicholas Kai states that despite being in a tough pool, they are ready for the challenge .
“This is the first time we will be taking part in such a competitive and a worldwide competition and this explains the big task ahead of us . We have been training in Kilifi and we will continue with the training at Kasarani just to ensure the atheletes are in good form. I have trust in my athletes and despite the tough pool , we are going for nothing less than a medal,” stated Kai , a teacher at Kanjura Primary School in Kilifi .
The team is a unified team consisting of ten athletes with five having intellectual dissabilities. It arrived in Nairobi on Saturday Morning and will be undergoing a one week training at Kasarani before flying to Chicago on 14th of July .
SO Nigeria will represent Africa in the male category.
