2016 Cecafa in Limbo as Kenya Opt Out

The 2016 CECAFA Kagame Cup and the Senior Challenge Cup may not take place after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) failed to confirm hosting the two tournaments, two months after accepting the bid.

Nothing seems to be running and organizers have not updated on the progress for either of the tournaments. FKF CEO Robert Muthomi confirmed on Tuesday (November 1) that the federation had not secured sponsorship for both tournaments and would not risk hosting a loss-making tournament.

The CECAFA Senior challenge Cup was scheduled to take place in two weeks time but nothing is moving.

As it seems, no sponsors are willing to come on board and neighbors Uganda might just cease the opportunity and host the two tournaments.

Kenya last hosted the event was in 2013 winning it by beating Sudan 1-0 in the final played at the muddy Nyayo stadium.
