Kenya’s 800m runner Kipyegon Bett has been charged with evading a doping test, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has confirmed.
The 2017 World Athletics Championship bronze medallist 800m has been charged for ‘refusing or failing to submit to sample collection,” without providing further information as required.
AIU broke the news on its Twitter handle saying; “@AIU_Athletics issues a Notice of Charge against Kipyegon Bett for refusing or failing to submit to sample collection, Article 2.3 of the #antidoping Rules. The #Kenyan middle-distance runner is Provisionally Suspended from all competition.”
Although the AIU is yet to confirm when the offence was committed, the 20-year-old could face a ban of up to four years and could be stripped of his medal if found guilty.
The charge is another blow for Kenya’s athletes and comes hot on the heels of the suspension of long distance runner Lucy Kabuu who was slapped with a temporary suspension after her samples were found to have the prohibited morphine.
