AFC Leopards players are demanding for the return of their estranged coach Zdravko Logarusic.
The Croatian was last seen in the Leopards technical bench a month ago when the team beat Ushuru 1-0 at the City Stadium. He went AWOL thereafter, protesting the delay in payment of his salaries and allowances and leaving the hotseat to his deputy Yusuf Chippo.
In Logarusic’s absence, Ingwe have played three matches but managed to pick only a single point from a possible nine. However, it seems that Logarusic’s understudy, Chippo, is yet to get backing from the players and a section of them are now calling for the return of the theatrical manager.
We’ve lost our motivation
“It is not fun being an AFC Leopards player now,” lamented one of the club’s prominent players who requested Fourfourtwomedia for anonymity.
“Logarusic is a great coach. He was the motivating factor behind the team despite all the problems in the club. Chippo lacks that motivation factor and a lot of other deficiencies and that is affecting our performance,” said the player.
Leopards were beaten 2-1 away to Sony Sugar in their first match without the Croat. They were then held 1-1 by visitors Bandari in the second match, captain Jackson Saleh scoring a late equalizer. It was last weekend though that they sunk to a new low, suffering a 2-1 defeat to bottom club Nakuru All Stars who had won only one match all season.
“To be honest, Chippo is not capable of steering this team to success. We need Logarusic back if our performances are to improve, other problems notwithstanding,” concluded the player.
Leopards face Ulinzi Stars Wednesday August 11 in their next match. However, focus has shifted to the ‘Mashemeji’ derby against sworn rivals Gor Mahia which is just under two weeks away.
Kogalo, despite having their own fair share of off-field issues, have somehow found a way to consistently deliver on the pitch. They blanked KCB 6-1 in their first match since returning from the Cecafa Kagame Cup, and given that they are yet to taste defeat in the league this season, they will be favorites to collect victory. The duo shared a 1-1 draw in their first leg clash.
