Liverpool Want Mane’s Red Card Ban Reduced

Liverpool are to appeal against Sadio Mané’s three-match ban following his red card against Manchester City and will argue that the punishment is excessive.

Liverpool have however confirmed that they are not contesting Mané’s dismissal in the first half at the Etihad Stadium for a high challenge that saw him collide with City goalkeeper Ederson, but believe a three-game suspension is unfair given the manner of the incident.

The FA was informed of Liverpool’s decision to appeal today and an independent regulatory commission will now hear the case tomorrow providing all the evidence is submitted in advance.

The ban could be downgraded to two matches or even one if Liverpool are successful, although the most likely outcome is that a three-game suspension remains in place.
