The season began on a high for AFC Leopards, a host of changes took place at the close of the season and many fans were enthusiastic that things were going to be better in 2018.
However, a 2-1 midweek loss to Sofapaka coupled by a couple of low key performances in the recent past have made a few heads roll and the first casualty might be on the line. Reports reaching Fourfourtwo media claim that head coach Robert Matano has been ‘Suspended’ with the club already looking for a replacement.
It is believed that poor tactics and his lack of ability to establish a solid first team from his 29-man squad have cultivated to his apparent suspension. With the team scheduled to take on SoNy Sugar on Saturday 4th March at Awendo, Matano, who helped Ingwe lift the GoTV Shield title in 2017, will not be on the touchline. Long serving assistant coach Dennis Kitambi will take charge of the team in the meanwhile.
‘We were bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup by a very poor side, lost to a Sofapaka team that didn’t deserve to win and we can’t have this go on anymore.’
‘Matano has basically let himself down and we demand answers for such under par performances.’
‘He was given a free hand in the recruitment of players and what he did is bringing in players who are not of our standards,’ a source revealed to us.
‘We are also questioning his tactics; we don’t even have a first eleven anymore, everyday is a new team that plays some funny kind of football, this must change,’ added our source.
