Former Kenya Sevens and current USA Sevens head coach, Mike Friday, made a successful return to the country as he led his Samurai International team to the 2015 Safari 7s title, edging Benjamin Ayimba’s Kenya Shujaa 20-19 in a tightly-fisted Main Cup final at the Kasarani Stadium.
A closely contested match between the all-Kenyan team, Shujaa, and the Samurai team which had six nationalities including Kenya’s Oscar Ouma, Samuel Oliech and Felix Ayange ended in defeat to the hosts despite holding a 14-10 lead at half time and extending that by five points immediately after the interval.
Kenya Shujaa advanced to the main cup final after whitewashing Zimbabwe 24-0 in the semis, while Samurai claimed a gritty 21-19 win over Western Province.
Frank Wanyama’s try for Shujaa extended their lead to 19-10 but Samurai hit back with 10 late points to claim a 20-19 win.
England Saxons won the Plate title after edging fellow European side 24-19 in the final, while Kenya Morans lifted the Bowl after beating Portugal 26-12. Zambia beat Uganda 14-10 to claim the Shield title.
