Nzoia United continued to put daylight between them and the chasing pack in the National Super League (NSL) as they picked their 22nd win in 29 matches to open a 15-point advantage at the top of the standings.
A goal either side of half time gave Nzoia a 2-0 home win over visiting Vihiga United whose promotion chances look bleak following the result.
With second-placed Nakumatt drawing 0-0 at FC Talanta, Bernard Mwalala’s Nzoia hit the 73-point point mark, a huge 15 points ahead of Nakumatt who are on 58.
Mwalala pointed out that four wins in their remaining 9 matches will see them join the elite in the Kenyan Premier League next season.
Meanwhile Zoo Kericho kept up the chase for promotion with a laborious 1-0 home win over Agrochemicals, Nicholas Kipkirui scoring the solitary goal inside three minutes. Zoo went above Kariobangi Sharks into third place after the latter settled for a second straight 1-1 draw, this time with Wazito FC who hit back through Joseph Wathira just after the half hour mark.
Zoo are third on 57 points, one behind Nakumatt and two ahead of Sharks who have a game in hand.
In other matches, bottom side Shabana FC picked their biggest winning margin of their torrid campaign, winning 4-1 at St Joseph FC but the fallen giants remain 10 points adrift of safety.
Hillary Omondi’s 12th minute goal gave Oserian a 1-0 home win over Bidco United while Nakuru All Stars and Police FC settled for a two-all stalemate.
On Saturday, Nairobi Stima were held to a 1-1 home draw by KCB while Palos FC claimed an comprehensive 4-1 win over visiting Moyas FC, Sydney Ochieng’s first half brace added on to by David Amimo and Shadrack Omondi. – Photo: Courtesy
