NSL: Otieno’s Double Helps AP Win, Shabana Held Again

Hillary Otieno scored a brace as Administration Police beat Eldoret Youth 3-0 to move to seventh in the National Super League (NSL) log.
Having drawn three of their last league fixtures, the Embakasi based side knew that a win would help them go above Shabana who were taking on Nairobi Stima in Kisii.
The 2pm affair, played under the scorching heat at the Toyoyo saw the home side lose a host of chances in the opening exchanges with captain Asumwa Etemesi and Abbas Abdulkarim the main culprits.

Asumwa had a chance to open scores in the 23rd minute of the game but be blasted his effort wide after being put through by Wycliffe Wafula. Two minutes later, Abdulkarim cut from the inside of the right flank but he stumbled and fell with only goalkeeper Edenyo Richard to beat.

The missed chances almost haunted them as rookie keeper Chris Barasa almost turning a feeble Chingwa Antony’s effort into his own net.
The opening goal of the match came on the half hour mark after Hillary found himself clear, firing low from close range after being put through by Etemesi, he would then double the advantage ten minutes later in almost similar fashion to give the law enforcers a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half was quite a dull affair with both sides showing little interest in front of goal. The visitors introduced Bulinda Micheal for the clearly ineffective Mwanzi Kevin and Owino Omondi for Oiga Paul, that made them stabilize a bit but they could not crack the AP defence marshaled by Herbert Okoth and Riro Mokuya.

The hosts also made a few changes, bringing in Alfred Chole for Abbas and Julius Muteti for Kevin Okunda. Chole made an immediate impact, tapping home from close range to assure AP three valuable points that keep them four points off the top four teams in the league.

In Kisii, Victor Omune cancelled out Hamisi Hadi’s first half strike to ensure that Nairobi Stima remained unbeaten in this campaign. The league continues on Monday with three matches on the cards. Kenya Police take on Modern Coast in Naivasha while there is a double header at Camp Toyoyo; the first match sees Kangemi All Stars take on Ushuru at 2pm while Wazito host Talanta in the late kick off.
