Ezekiel Odera, back from illness scored a brace as AFC Leopards beat Chemelil 2-0 to record their third straight win in the Kenya Premier League.
Leopards had to endure a dull first half wasting a host of chances against a much changed Chemelil side.
Leopards coach Rodolfo Zapata started with the same lineup that beat Sofapaka 1-0 on Wednesday with Whyvonne Isuzza leading the frontline alongside Jeffery Owiti and Brian Marita.
The plan did not work well with the Leopards who fluffed their chances, forcing an early second half change.
Brian Marita continued from where he left versus Sofapaka, running down the wing and tormenting the Millers and his 17th minute cross was not well connected by former Chemelil man Jeffrey Owiti. Chemelil too had their chances with new man Zeka Wakoli beating the Ingwe defence twice but not the hawk eyed Owade. Felix Oluoch had the best chance of the first half when he capitalized on a poor clearance by captain Robinson Kamura, he raced wide and collected the ball and his fierce shot was palmed away by Ezekiel Owade.
With no further action, the two sides went to the breather goalless and it was Ingwe who reacted first with Ezekiel Odera replacing the young Clyde Senaji.
Odera’s influence would immediately be felt as he started finding pockets in the Chemelil defence. In the 46th minute, Odera forced Chemelil keeper Aimo into a fine save, diving to his right to deny Odera from opening scores. In the 49th minute Odera’s shot whistled just wide off the left upright with Aimo well beaten. He was however not denied in the 74th minute as he reacted fast to flick Moses Mburu’s long throw to break the deadlock. He then completed his brace in the 89th minute of the game, scoring from the spot kick to put matters beyond Chemelil’s reach.
