The Pool draw for the HSBC Paris Sevens pitted dethroned Singapore Sevens champions Kenya Sevens against the team that controversially ended their title defence hopes, England.
The duo headline a potentially cracking Pool C that also has hosts France and invitational side Spain, recent winners of Series qualifiers in Hong Kong.
It’s however the England clash that Kenya 7s will be keen on, if only to exact revenge on the 13-12 defeat Shujaa suffered when the duo met in the Singapore quarters with the English getting a helping hand from the referee.
Kenya, who finished joint 7th in Singapore, reached the Cup quarters last year but lost to hosts France before suffering another defeat at the hands of Australia in the Plate semis.
Canada, who claimed their maiden Series title by beating USA in the Singapore final are the top seeds and are drawn in Pool A with series leaders South Africa, Scotland and Japan.
Pool B features Singapore runners-up USA who are drawn alongside New Zealand, Wales and Argentina.
Australia top Pool D and will face last year’s runner-up Fiji, defending champions Samoa and Russia on day one in Paris.
The action kicks off in Paris on Saturday, 13 May.
