Posta Rangers and Nairobi Stima will play the first of their two-legged promotion/relegation playoff match this Saturday at the Karuturi Grounds, Naivasha.
Stima lost their battle for automatic promotion from the National Super League on the final day by the slimmest of margins thanks to Kisumu Allstars’ superior goal difference.
Stima interim boss Evans Mafuta however has the exciting yet challenging task of trying to guide the side to their first topflight appearance. They lost such an opportunity last season after collapsing in their final match against KCB.
They host a Posta side who have flattered with relegation in the last two seasons and finished third from bottom in the recently concluded 2018-19 Kenyan Premier League season.
Posta gained topflight promotion in 2015 and initially established themselves as a top half side but their levels have been dropping over the last two seasons.
They gradually improved under new boss John Kamau but lost momentum in the run-in, eventually finishing third from bottom.
They host the second leg in Machakos on Wednesday, June 19.
The winner of the two-legged playoff will earn a spot in the 2019-20 KPL season with the loser playing in the second tier.
