A goal either side of half time proved enough as Posta Rangers continued peeling away from the drop zone, beating relegation rivals Zoo Kericho 2-0 in an early morning Kenyan Premier League match at the Machakos Stadium, Sunday.
Only one point separated Posta in 15th from second from bottom Zoo who were looking to get a second victory on the trot over a team battling relegation, the Kericho side having beaten Vihiga United 1-0 ahead of this clash.
Posta meanwhile had been beaten 3-1 by AFC Leopards.
A scrappy first half was settled by a solitary own goal by Zoo’s Stanislaus Akiya just five minutes before the break.
Zoo created numerous chances after the break but failed to capitalize, Kevin Omondi wasting the best at the hour mark when he booted wide with the goal open.
Marcellus Ingotsi, coming off the bench, looked lively and created two fine chances within minutes of coming on but he hit the side netting then blasted over.
The winger however made sure of the points with three minutes to the end when he put Zoo fullback Dominic Ouma under pressure, robbed him of the ball before curling into the bottom right corner past Martin Elung’at.
Gearshon Likono should have made it 3-0 in stoppage time but he ballooned the ball over from 6 yards out.
Victory lifts Posta to 24 points, four above Zoo who occupy the automatic second from bottom relegation position but have a game in hand.
