Posta Rangers moved joint second in the Kenyan Premier League log after battling to a 1-0 win over Sofapaka in Nairobi while Western Stima were held to a one-all draw by visiting Thika United in Kisumu.
Zedekiah Otieno’s Posta had been held to 1-1 draws in the previous two matches as they welcomed Sofapaka who needed a response following a 5-2 humiliation against Mathare United last weekend.
Rangers were frustrated during the opening half where there biggest threats came from freekicks outside the area but which Joackins Atudo more often than not directed straight at the wall.
They got the breakthrough immediately after the interval, Moses Otieno with the easiest of finishes after schoolboy errors from the Sofapaka defence gifted Gearson Likonoh the ball and the forward tossed the ball into the danger area which Otieno dealt with accordingly.
Sofapaka substitute Heritier Luvualu was their biggest threat after coming on as he came close with two long range shots while an effort inside the box rattled the bar and the post.
Luvualu also forced Rangers keeper Ian Otieno into a fingertip save as the visitors pushed for an equalizer but the promoted side had enough quality to hold on for the three points.
At Moi Stadium, Kisumu, Western Stima settled for a second consecutive 1-1 draw after they failed to hold on to a Fredrick Shimonyo early goal. Shimonyo was involved in both goals as after scoring in the 7th minute, he gave away a penalty at the quarter hour mark which was tucked home by Thika captain Dennis Odhiambo.
