Umaru Kasumba scored the solitary winning goal to help visiting Sofapaka overcome Sony Sugar 1-0 in Awendo and keep up the pressure on fellow title contenders Gor Mahia.
The Ugandan struck just three minutes to the breather as the 2009 league champions stretched their unbeaten run to 11 matches and moved two points clear at the top of the log.
Kasumba slotted past Kevin Omondi after Andrew Waiswa was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the penalty area.
The home fans were riled by the penalty decision and made their feelings known as they temporarily blocked the match officials from accessing the changing room but eventually gave in.
The first half goal proved decisive as Sofapaka won away at Sony for the first time since a 2-0 victory in 2013, while extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches. They also ended a run of 10 consecutive league matches without victory over the Millers.
With Gor Mahia only drawing 1-1 against Ulinzi Stars in Kisumu, Sofapaka go into the next match day two points clear but have played four matches more than the title holders.
Sony meanwhile remain 7th with 35 points.
