Noah Wafula made a dream return to the Tusker FC lineup as he headed home the winning goal in the Brewers 1-0 victory over KCB at the Machakos Stadium, Thursday.
The former Harambee Stars winger was slotted straight in to coach Robert Matano’s starting XI, having completed his transfer back to the club from Kakamega Homeboyz, and he repaid the manager’s trust.
In a game of limited chances, Wafula was the difference maker as he leaped unmarked inside the Bankers’ penalty box to head home a corner from Boniface Muchiri six minutes into the second half.
A barren first half had ended with both keepers going largely untested. Victor Omondi’s failed attempt to catch Tusker keeper Robert Mboya off his line and Zamu Adisa’s error which almost gifted Wafula a goal only for Michael Kibwage to intercept on the line were the only chances of note in the opening half.
The game’s goal came from a corner which Adisa conceded having made a fingertip save from Timothy Otieno’s header. Muchiri swang it from the left and Wafula connected.
KCB won a fair amount of dangerous free-kicks which Eston Esiye wrapped his boot around but he either sent then straight at Mboya, or wide.
His final delivery of the game came in added time as he found Gabriel Mugabo inside the box but the towering substitute headed wide, confirming Tusker’s three points and a league double over the promoted side.
Tusker move up from 7th to 5th on the log with 35 points while the Bankers are 9th.
