The brewing battle between Kenyan Premier League sides and teams from the second division, National Super League (NSL), will move to a grander stage following the release of the quarterfinal pairings of the ongoing 2016 GOtv Shield competition.
Three NSL sides progressed from the round of 16 led by the league’s leaders Nzoia United who stunned KPL reigning champions Gor Mahia 1-0 in Mumias this past weekend.
Nzoia, unbeaten this season, have been rewarded with a home fixture against Ulinzi Stars, 3-1 winners over Chemelil Sugar at Afraha Stadium.
Reigning champions Bandari FC will pay a visit to Kariobangi Sharks after both got 1-0 wins over Bidco United and Modern Coast Rangers respectively. Musa Mudde scored the solitary winner for the Dockers while Sharks had Ibrahim Kitawi to thank for their win over Coast Rangers.
KCB who fell premier league outfit Thika United will be hoping for a repeat result against Henry Omino’s Western Stima. Kennedy Owino’s fifth minute striker gave the Bankers victory but they will be coming up against Stima who thumped 2013 champions AFC Leopards 3-0 at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.
The final quarterfinal show will pit league leaders Tusker FC, 3-0 winners over Zetech University, against either of Posta Rangers and Timsales.
The two teams are awaiting on the verdict over an appeal against disqualification of Zedekiah Otieno’s side who Timsales accused of fielding an ineligible player, John Nairuka, who scored a brace in a 4-1 win for the KPL side in the round of 64 stage.
