Shujaa fell short at the final hurdle, going down to a 20-34 loss at the hands of Sussies Saloon in an entertaining Amsterdam Sevens Cup final on Sunday 29 May in Amsterdam.
The Sussies would get off the mark with an unconverted try but Felix Ayange restored parity for Shujaa moments later before the Sussies landed two converted tries for a 19-5 lead.
Frank Wanyama would shrug off his defenders, racing clear to land a second as they trailed 19-10 at the interval.
Shujaa came to the second half the hungrier side, two tries in quick succession from Billy Odhiambo and Humphrey Mulama put them 20-19 up but three unconverted tries saw the Sussies rally to win the 45th edition of the tournament that was first played in 1972.
A 22-19 win over Samurai International secured a berth for Shujaa in the Amsterdam Sevens Main Cup final.
Shujaa had earlier reached the cup semis at the Amsterdam Sevens after winning their two silver pier matches on Sunday.They started the day with a 28-5 win over the Tenlct Rhinos before edging past Georgia 14-12.
Shujaa had topped Pool 1 at the 2016 Amsterdam Sevens, finishing the day with a 100% record courtesy of three wins on Saturday 28 May 2016.
Shujaa posted identical 43-0 wins over NRC Herren and Amstelveen respectively before registering a 63-0 result over Dambusters. (KRU)
