Kenya Simbas head coach Ian Snook has unveiled his squad for the crunch Rugby Africa Gold Cup clash away to Namibia set for this Saturday, August 18 at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
The Simbas, currently second behind their weekend hosts, need victory against the seven time champions to win the tournament which is also doubling up as a qualifier for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Namibia, gunning for their sixth consecutive world cup appearance, currently top the standings on 20 points, three ahead of Kenya who go into this battle at the back of a 67-0 bonus point victory over Tunisia last Saturday.
Ahead of the duel, Simbas boss Snook has named the strongest side available as he aims to qualify the team for their maiden world cup appearance.
Willy ‘Lomu’ Ambaka made a stunning test debut for Kenya XVs by scoring two tries against Tunisia and he retains his spot, and so does Mohammed Omollo, another debutant who chalked over.
Missing from the Davis Chenge-captained side are Martin Owiah who is relegated to the bench and Vincent Mose who didn’t make the journey. The duo started against Tunisia but their spots are taken by George Nyambua who will be at the blindside andTony Onyango who will occupy the fullback position
Should Kenya fail to beat the Welwitschias for first spot, they will qualify for the repechage competition alongside three other regional qualifiers. The repechage tournament will be hosted at the neutral venue in France in November, 2018.
