Sony Halt Resurgent Nakumatt, Mathare Held

Enock Agwanda scored on his return at Sony Sugar as they trounced Nakumatt 3-1 in a Kenya Premier League match played on Sunday  June 10, 2018 at the Awendo Green Stadium.

Nakumatt made the trip to Western Kenya thriving on a three-game winning run that had seen them move off the bottom.

However, they were second best against a Sony outfit who are stuck in the relegation zone and were hunting for only their fourth win of the season.

The host’s goals came courtesy of a first half goal from Meshack Karani which was added onto in the second half.

Karani struck after just 12 minutes and saw his team lead at the break. Brian Nyakan hit the leveler after 63 minutes, only to see Enock Agwanda restore his side’s lead with a debut striker seven minutes later. Nakumatt, desperate to keep their five-match unbeaten run intact, were dealt a blow five minutes to the final whistle when defender Eugene Ambulwa was sent off. Stephen Onyango capitalized, hitting Sony’s third goal in stoppage time. Sony moved off the bottom with the result to sit 16th, three spots and three points behind Nakumatt.

 Mathare Frozen

Meanwhile Mathare United picked their 8th draw of the season following a one-all result against Thika United. Visiting Thika took an eighth minute lead via midfielder Eugene Mukhangula but Clifford Alwanga drew the Slum Boys level with his 11th strike of the season in the 66th minute.

The visitors however held on for the point despite Mwinyi Kibwana being sent off four minutes to the final whistle.
