Kenya women’s football team, Harambee Starlets, will make their maiden appearance at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) when they take on Ghana this Sunday, November 20, at the Stade Municipal de Limbe in Limbe, Cameroon.
Starlets have been in the West African nation for two weeks now as they get used to the environment and prepare for what should be a real test.
David Ouma’s side will battle in their Group B opener just hours after Nigeria and Mali, the other group members open the group’s proceedings.
It will be the first time Starlets will be meeting any of their group opponents. They will take on Mali three days later before concluding their group commitments against record champions and tournament favorites Nigeria.
The competition attracted 8 teams with Group A consisting of hosts Cameroon, Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semis.
Cameroon, who beat Starlets both home and away in their two friendlies, will battle Egypt in the competition’s opener on Saturday before neighbours Banyana Banyana of South Africa and Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors squared off on the same day.
The tournament will run between 19 November and 3 December 2016.
