Mwanahalima Adam scored twice and set up the other as Kenya’s Harambee Starlets edged visiting Ethiopia 3-2 in a pre-Olympics qualifiers friendly match at the Machakos Stadium, Saturday.
Adam had the home crowd up in celebrations as early as the 7th minute when she outpaced the Ethiopian defence before slotting home past keeper Balcha Tarikua the game’s first goal.
Ethiopia reorganized themselves from the early shock and did well to keep the scoreline narrow at the interval.
The second half served the fans with goals galore.
The visitors pulled level moments after resumption as Ware Birtukan turned home as the Kenyan defence went to sleep when a freekick was delivered into the box.
However, the hosts reclaimed their lead as Adam grabbed her second following some good work by Corazone Aquino
The visitors refused to lie down though and they restored parity immediately after through Serkadis Kidane who sunk the ball home following some poor goalkeeping from Kenya’s Annette Kundu.
It seemed the two sides would settle for a draw but Adam had other ideas as she made one last hurray into the Ethiopian box from which she was fouled with the referee pointing to the spot.
Gentrix Shikangwa stepped forward and slotted home to give the hosts victory.
The result will be a shot in the arm for David Ouma’s side who have 10 days to go before they take on Malawi in an Olympics qualifier.
Starlets will be in the Malawian capital, Blantyre, for the first leg set for August 28 with the Nairobi return leg four days later.
