Startimes Inter-media: 442 Take 3rd Runners-up Spot

The 442 Media team put a gallant fight at the inaugural Startimes inter-media challenge, losing in the semifinals to eventual champions Radio Africa.

442 broke little sweat in topping their group with 7 points. They fought from behind to secure a 1-1 with losing finalists Goal.com in their first match before comfortably beating Media Forum 2-1, the scoreline not doing enough justice to a tie 442 bossed.

Built on a steady and no nonsense defence marshalled by Elvince Joshua, Bob Freddy and Kevin Bita who stood in front of keeper Junior Mireri and a forward line of any manager’s dream, 442 turned up a gear, smashing Xinhua 5-0 (it could have been more) to easily book their slot in the quarterfinals. The group goals were scored by captain Stephen Ayoo, the lethal left-footed Kevin Otieno, Bob and Mercy Njueh who was the only lady to score a goal in the entire tournament.

No team scored more goals across all the four groups.

Mediamax meet their match

The lads continued with their winning and scoring streak in the quarters where they easily saw off MediaMax 2-0, Ayoo scoring his fifth goal of the tournament and providing the assist for the impressive Eric Wambugu who slammed home the second of the match in yet another spellbinding team performance.

442 Media’s campaign however was cut short in their semifinal clash against Mediamax who won the match 2-0, Radio Jambo commentator Diblo Kaberia grabbing himself a brace after some poor defending.

The boys faced off with Capital in the third-place playoff and despite falling behind, Ayoo’s sixth goal of the tournament from an exquisite Wambugu pass forced the match to penalties. Capital converted all their three spot kicks while Kevin Otieno and Wambugu also netted but Ayoo turned villain with his effort drawing a save from Capital keeper Alex Isaboke.

Radio Africa won the title and Kshs. 50,000 after beating Goal 1-0 courtesy of a penalty from on-loan 442Media forward Gregory Mulemi.

Meanwhile Ayoo easily took home the golden boot award with six goals.

Kudos Team 442 and better luck next time.
