Volleyball League Action Resumes after Long Break

National Volleyball League action will resume this weekend with competition for playoff berths taking centre stage at the eighth leg slated for Friday September 25 at Eldama Ravine.

Reports have it that Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) is exploring the possibility of having a six-team playoff for the first time. However, men’s defending champions Kenya Prisons will look to secure their place with victory over seventh placed Cooperative Bank in what is the highlight fixture of this leg.

“We will be meeting on Saturday October 3 to make a decision on the number of teams. Some of us were for the idea. There are those who are still not sure whether we can make it but when we meet we will agree”, KVF secretary general Evans Wasike told Four4Media.

In another enticing match up, General Service Unit (GSU) will look to atone for their loss to KPA in the previous leg with a win over third placed Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

On the other end of the table, it is still not clear whether minnows Finlays and Vihiga County will serve a ball in Ravine, both having missed two legs with Wasike confirming that their fate will be decided during the October 3 meeting.

Points tally

“If a team fails to honour certain number of matches, it is removed from the fixtures. We have to meet and agree because the teams that had beaten them will be at a disadvantage while those that had lost to them will prefer they be removed”, added Wasike.

It will be a tough outing for KCB in the ladies’ category as they line up against Kenya Prisons and Kenya Pipeline. The latter will have a busier schedule with additional assignments against Nairobi Water and Oserian.
