Gor Mahia winger Innocent Wafula has had his enthusiasm for a first national team call-up cut in short barely 24 hours later after he was axed from the squad.
Wafula has time and again been overlooked despite being one of the best wingers in the country and it felt like justice had been served when he was included in Harambee Stars’ 31-man squad released by Bobby Williamson on Monday evening.
However, the Ugandan-born winger has now been removed from the squad.
“We asked him to prove to us that he is a Kenyan but he is yet to do it. It is taking longer than we expected and therefore, is not part of the team anymore,” Williamson reportedly told Goal.
Williamson added five more players to his initial 31-man, now 30, squad including Kogalo midfielder Collins Okoth and two players from the FKF Premier League.
