Wanyama Gives Kenya Victory over Madagascar

BY STEVE AYOO

Captain Victor Wanyama scored a second half penalty to guide Kenya to a labored 1-0 win over Madagascar in pre-African Cup of Nations friendly battled out at the Robert Robin Stadium in Paris, France.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder calmly slotted home just two minutes after the hour mark after Norel Jeremy had handled a cross from Ayub Timbe, putting Stars on their way to a victory they barely deserved, the Island nation having been the better side.

Madagascar were themselves awarded a first half penalty which they failed to convert, Kenyan keeper Patrick Matasi pulling off a save having made the error that led to the spot kick.

Madagascar created the better of chances but were wasteful against a Kenyan side that struggled to get a rhythm in the game.

Kenya head coach Sebastien Migne will be hoping for an improved performance when his side tackles the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next friendly set for June 15 in Madrid, Spain.

He will assess the severity of an injury to winger Timbe who left injured and was replaced by Paul Were.
